For all the Indian cricket (and also the non-cricket) fans out there, this has become more of a cliché but yeah, the day that they all had awaited most eagerly (yet again!) had finally come! The Men in Blue had a face off against the Black Caps! The team led by Mahi played a tough game against the team led by Kane Williamson (Dear Brendon McCullum, you were and WILL be missed!)! But all in vain! Team India had a “not-so-dreamy” start, losing the match against the Kiwis, in spite of a brilliant bowling innings! But come on, this is JUST the beginning! Matches are yet to come and our team will create havoc in the minds of their opponents with their strategic and perilous play!
Having won the very first edition of the tournament, India has always come about as a tough contender in the series. Though it has not managed to win the cup after that, its performance has always come about as a strategic one, if not the best, among all teams.
This year, the Super 10 comprises of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, New Zealand, Australia, England, South Africa and our very own, India. England, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka and India have each won the series once and among these, Sri Lanka has fared as the best performer, in terms of turning out players with the most runs and most wickets. But India is the best when it comes to strategy (Should I mention the cool planning and execution by our skipper?)! And statistics reveal that it is the most successful team in this tournament!
Australia has some of its most powerful players like Steve Smith, Shane Watson, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, to name a few (can’t be mentioning the entire squad, right?) and apart from them, every other player is good at their own style and temperament. England’s Eoin Morgan is sure to lead his team in the best way, working their way up the table and give a tough competition for its opponents.
New Zealand’s Ross Taylor will sure as hell give a consistent performance as always, except for his dullest times. Pakistan’s Mohammed Amir and Wahab Riaz are back to recreate the storm that they had created during the Asia Cup 2016.
South Africa’s huge brigade of sportsmen (more like soldiers!) like Faf Du Plessis, Hashim Amla, AB De Villiers, JP Duminy, Dale Steyn (and the remaining six!) make a super cool team and I really wish that the odds are in their favour, after Team India (just MY opinion!) !
Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, Lasith Malinga, Thisara Perera, blah blah (No Offence, I Swear!) will make sure that the twenty overs (more like 40 overs!) are in their fists, paving the way for victory. West Indies’ Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Samuel Badree, Chris Gayle will maintain their cool to finish the innings in style.
Having seen that each and every team has cool players with super cool temperament; it is really tough to decide or least, forecast the champion of this edition of the ICC World T20. But who cares? We will make sure that we catch up the matches every day, till the 3rd of April, touching and jumping with extra “josh“ for Team India! Let’s hope and Pray that India lifts the cup again! Yayyyyyyyy!
